Despite his early passing at the age of 33, the great Belcanto composer Vincenzo Bellini nevertheless left the opera world a wealth of masterpieces. His last opera , premièred in 1835, is I puritani. The story takes place in 1650 England during the war between Oliver Cromwell’s Puritans and the Royalists. Unhappy love, madness, politics and death combine in a nail-biting, tightly-woven intrigue. The Wiener Staatsoper currently presents a production by John Dew which recounts the thrilling tale through simple yet visually striking images
