Upon the death of his ex-girlfriend from his student days – and the mother of his child – a 35-year-old single businessman begins a life with the estranged son who is just beginning ninth grade. Subtle or non-existent camera movements, minimalist frame compositions, static actors, and a minimum number of peripheral characters allow us to focus on the father and son’s emotions, leading to the discovery that this reticent film actually lies in the middle of a surging emotional tide.
