Across & Down

In September of 2009, I traveled to Uganda to be the cinematographer for a documentary at a primary school, but had brought some of my own equipment so that I could make a more personal record of my trip. I wandered around, collecting samples from a new place, tracing the outlines of a vibrant tapestry, digging into the ground with my lens, sometimes attracting an audience (turn crew), sometimes invited into visually stunning locations and situations.
　　This Film represents 6 in-camera edited rolls, interwoven with the text, macro-images and found poetry of Ugandan crossword puzzles, commenting on the simultaneous simplicity, complexity and serendipity of perceiving and acting in a new place.
