剧情介绍
This is a documentary about the greek civil war. It covers the period from the resistance against the nazi occupation (1940-1944) to the 1949 defeat of the communist-led rebels. Mostly made-up of interviews with members of the partisan army and some key-leaders of the greek communist party, most notably Markos Vafiadis, this documentary takes sides with the left.
Another thing that is covered here is the economic and military intervention of United Kingdom in favor of the bourgeois and the king, and the reluctance of the Soviet Russia to assist the partisans. The cretinism of the so-called "percentages agreement" (october '44), the division of the world into "spheres of infuence" (Yalta, 1945).
However, what is not covered, is the terrorism of the greek stalinist party toward left communists, trotskyists and anarchists. These revolutionaries were blacklisted both by the bourgeois/fascist forces and the stalinists. Many were murdered without trial by the partisan "secret police", including those who actually decided to join the communist-led partisans in the armed struggle.
The documentary was eventually banned. According to the rwf.gr website, there's only one copy of the original left, the source tapes being destroyed. Apparently, a peculiar "Damnatio Memorae" is imposed on Jane Gabriel and her "Hidden War" documentary. The reason behind this is propably the fact that the documentary successfully uncovers the role of Great Britain and USA in postwar Greece.
