从维多利亚巴洛克时代到现代装饰艺术风格的转变，很大一部分取决于材质的变化，更多富于工业特色的银箔、珞、玻璃、镀银的钢制材料被使用到，线条、形状更有机械感与力感。1919-1939，其实art deco之美早已超越有限的时代局限，应用于现代世界各地建筑当中。
